According to the website of Michigan.gov, the Bureau of Construction codes and Fires Safety (BCCFS) are reminding homeowners the importance of cleaning out their dryer vents. Most dryer vent fires start with a build-up of lint, which blocks the flow of air and ignites when it becomes too hot. In the most recent year that data is available, 2004, there were 425 fires resulting in 6 injuries and 1 death in Michigan. Condominium associates should be aware that most multiple unit construction produces dryer vent runs that are long and complex. With these multi-unit buildings, you must be concerned about individual dryer vent maintenance.
